Does AI-Powered Clinical Documentation Enhance Clinician Efficiency? A Longitudinal Study

刊登時間

In recent years, AI-powered tools are increasingly used to automate the process of documenting patient encounters. By alleviating administrative burdens and enabling clinicians to focus on patient care, AI-powered clinical documentation tool has been promoted as a promising strategy to mitigate physician burnout and make health care delivery more efficient.

In this longitudinal study, 112 primary care clinicians using DAX Copilot, an EHR-integrated AI-enabled scribe software, were recruited between June and August 2023 along with a control group of 103 clinicians from similar practices not using DAX Copilot. Primary outcomes of EHR use and financial impact were assessed over 180 days using linear mixed models.

In this evaluation, we found no statistically significant differences in EHR-related and financial metrics between DAX Copilot users and the control group. However, exploratory results suggested that modest reductions in note time could result from using DAX Copilot at a high utilization level or deploying DAX Copilot to select clinician subgroups.
