US-based NthJEN has introduced its new multi-sensor smart bed technology for the healthcare sector to monitor immobility.
This solution is designed to alert healthcare professionals to any potential risks, as well as help prevent injuries and patient falls. The smart bed system features a thin, pressure-sensitive membrane that can be applied to any standard bed, equipped with more than 1,000 sensors to continuously assess pressure distribution and patient movements.
This technology identifies early signs of immobility or hazardous patterns that could lead to pressure ulcers or falls. It can detect when a patient leaves the bed and has not returned within a specified safe period, promptly notifying staff.
By enabling the early detection of inactivity or absence, NthJEN's smart bed technology prioritises prevention over reaction. Looking ahead, the company plans to integrate additional clinical monitoring features into the system such as vital signs and ambient sensors.
