We have developed a comprehensive smart blood transfusion process to improve blood transfusion safety. This includes a self-developed personal digital assistant (PDA)-based system for blood preparation/transfusion identification, which has been expanded to cover hospital-wide specimen collection, blood product reception, and pre-transfusion patient identification, thereby preventing human error-induced blood transfusion errors.
