Hendrick Health speeds stroke care with tele-neurology

Updated

Hendrick Health provides care to a mostly rural population of approximately 400,000 residents in the West Central Texas region.  The fundamental stroke care challenge in West Texas, and for Hendrick Health in particular, has been and continues to be too few neurologists to meet the ever-growing stroke care needs within the region.

Hendrick Medical Center  process improvement included the implementation of Viz.ai, a powerful artificial intelligence system designed to evaluate computed tomography and computed tomography angiography imaging to identify large vessel occlusion or intracerebral hemorrhage quickly. The algorithm feature for CT perfusion assists neuro-interventionalists with determination of risk versus benefit of advanced treatment options.

The health system has reduced the number of transfers to other facilities for higher level stroke care, reduced stroke call-to-screen time to under 7.5 minutes, and dropped door-to-needle time to as low as 34 minutes.
