Seoul National University Hospital has installed a “smart hearing loop” system in key hospital areas to improve communication for patients with hearing loss using hearing aids or cochlear implants.
The smart hearing loop uses assistive listening technology that transmits a speaker's voice directly to compatible hearing devices whilst reducing ambient noise.
Eight units were installed across five locations, including pediatric and adult otorhinolaryngology consultation rooms, a nurse counseling room, the Daehan Outpatient Administrative Service Center, and Seoseonghwan Hall at the Cancer Hospital.
The hospital said the system is intended to improve communication during consultations and public announcements, while reducing dependence on caregivers.
