New app guides allergy prevention in Aussie babies

Updated

A new online app has been launched in Australia to help parents introduce common allergy-causing foods to their babies, reducing their risk of developing food allergies.

The Food Follower app, developed by the National Allergy Council (NAC), allows parents to track a baby's food introductions, record feeding progress and note possible reactions.

Food tracking can be personalised according to a baby's age and family eating habits, and records can be shared with partners, carers and health professionals.

The app also guides parents on signs of an allergic reaction and what steps to take in line with the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) Action Plan.

If a baby develops a possible allergic reaction, parents can record it in the app and pause notifications until they receive professional advice.
