As AI becomes a routine part of workflows across healthcare organisations in the Asia-Pacific, a new HIMSS report suggests that AI ambition and adoption may have outpaced organisational readiness.
HIMSS recently published the HIMSS AI Landscape in APAC Healthcare 2026 Report, which provides a regional overview of AI adoption, implementation patterns, and emerging priorities within healthcare organisations.
AI adoption remains relatively recent in APAC, with nearly half of respondents (46%) stating that their organisations had only implemented within the past 12 months.
Generative AI (GenAI) is the most widely adopted AI technology, with 81% of respondents reporting its use, followed by large language models (LLMs) (47%).
However, organisational support appears to lag behind adoption, as GenAI and LLMs were the most frequently identified tools respondents cited needing additional support for (38%).
The study found gaps in organisational readiness, as only about a third (35%) of respondents stated that their organisation had a dedicated internal AI team.
