The Sequoia Project has released guidance and example resources to help healthcare providers, payers and technology vendors implement automated computable consent processes.
Because there is no uniform law governing consent, but instead a patchwork of federal and state laws that often overlap and sometimes conflict, "most organizations are still stuck with manual consent processes," Day explained, and are left without a way to record and communicate consent preferences across systems.
Sequoia's new Operationalizing Automated Consent Guidance addresses these gaps and could help organizations facilitate cross-functional discussions, begin planning implementation approaches and better communicate consent standards with patients.
Of note, there are templates in the guidance appendices that healthcare organizations can use right away to implement compliant computable consent processes and procedures.
