Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) will launch a new ‘Health Coins’ policy in October 2026, President Lai Ching-te announced at the eighth meeting of the Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee on 27 August.
Using digital health technology and a reward mechanism, the policy aims to encourage citizens to participate in health check-ups, cancer screenings, preventive healthcare, and health management, as Taiwan seeks to shift its health policy from disease treatment towards prevention and health promotion.
The government describes Health Coins as more than a health incentive programme, presenting it as a new model for digital health governance.
It aims to establish the system while involving both public and private sector actors in its implementation, with the stated intention of developing a broader ecosystem for public health.
The policy forms part of the wider Healthy Taiwan initiative, which links healthcare policy to health equity and national resilience.
