On 9 September, the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean announced progress towards a Regional All-Hazards Public Health Intelligence (PHI) Network, developed through the Regional Health Alliance.
The initiative aims to connect information held across WHO, national authorities, humanitarian organisations and other partners to produce shared intelligence for health emergency preparedness and response across the region.
Rather than creating a new centralised data system, the network will connect and interpret information from existing sources and platforms.
This includes data on disease surveillance, population displacement, food security and nutrition, environmental hazards, conflict, health-service disruptions and other socioeconomic risks.
The resulting joint operational picture is intended to help partners identify emerging threats and determine where coordinated UN support is needed.
The network takes an all-hazards and One Health approach, covering a broad range of risks and disruptions.
