Highlights of Workload Reduction
- Specimen tracking queries allow users to instantly identify the location of the specimen. The time to locate the specimen within the track has been reduced from an average of 12 minutes per specimen to 1.5 minutes.
- The setup of the specimen cross-boundary integration dashboard allows monitoring of all connected machines, reducing the need for staff to walk back and forth to check the instrument status.
- The remark reminder under the laboratory report middleware software reminds colleagues and features a 'Top Priority' report pinned at the top, with special color markings to reduce the need for staff to constantly check urgent cases, making it less likely to be overlooked.
Our hospital has established a 30-minute turnaround time target for urgent specimen reports, with the Department of Laboratory Medicine setting a quality indicator threshold of 95%. Analysis of data from June to September 2023 revealed that the achievement rate was only 50%, falling significantly short of the target. This finding indicated substantial room for improvement in the existing workflow. Therefore, to enhance the turnaround time performance of urgent specimen reports and achieve the quality indicator target, the following improvement measures were implemented:
