Information
According to the statistics of Health Magazine, the respiratory care chronic wards in Taiwan have increased by 4 times in the past ten years, and about 69% of the patients need intubation and subsequent tracheostomy decision making. Therefore, this solution uses virtual reality to allow patients and family members to experience the differences between general intubation and tracheostomy in the virtual world, including suction, feeding, vocalization, surgery, prognosis, and long-term complications. It can assist them in making decisions, and guide the process of home tracheostomy care on the spot, so that caregivers and family members can repeatedly experience and master the relevant skills and steps, such as: wound care, sputum pumping, feeding, tracheostomy tube position, placement of sound generators and emergency treatment of tracheal slippage can reduce family members' running around in the hospital and improve the quality of holistic care.
Benefits
After users have experienced this VR system, compared with traditional modes (oral, paper, etc.), it has significantly improved their knowledge and skills related to home care, increased familiarity with the care process, reduced anxiety. It also reduced the number of patients admitted to hospital due to poor nursing techniques and the number of long-term ventilator dependence. The results have been published in internationally renowned journals [Medicine (Baltimore), 2022. 101(2): p. e28570.].
